Top 3 Street Artists You Should Know

1. BANKSY

Banksy is an anonymous English street artist, film maker, and activist. His street art is usually satirical with dark humor and he focuses on political and social commentary.

He began his work in the 1980's signing his name as Robert Banx, which soon evolved into his current name. Over the years his work traveled from the Bristol underground scene to working on streets, walls, and bridges around the world. His works can be found in Barcelona, London, Brighton, Jerusalem, Venice, New York City, and many other places. He usually claims works through his Instagram page that now has over 10 million followers. If you're a street art enthusiast, he's undoubtedly the artist you need to know of.


2. SHEPHARD FAIREY

Frank Shepherd Fairey is a very famous American "contemporary artist, graphic designer, and

illustrator". He is also the founder of OBEY clothing. Like many street artists he emerged from the skating scene.

Fairey earned recognition in 2008 during the US Presidential Elections. He created the famous Barack Obama "HOPE" street poster pictured on the left, which earned immediate recognition and became the popular symbol of Obama's campaign message.



3. CORNBREAD


Cornbread, originally named Darryl McCray, is a graffiti artist from Philadelphia. He is known as the first modern graffiti artist and started his journey by tagging in Philadelphia. He then spread his work to New York and at age 17, jumped the fence of the Philadelphia Zoo to spray "Cornbread Lives" on the side of an elephant. McCray has now developed a close relationship with The Philadelphia Mural Arts Program and has become a public speaker and a youth advocate.
